Lobia Curry | Black Eyed Peas Curry

Serves 6

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups lobia or black-eyed peas, soaked overnight

  • 3 tomatoes, pureed

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 green chillies, chopped

  • 3 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp amchoor or dry mango powder

  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder

  • 1/2 tsp garam masala

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds or jeera

  • 1 tbsp mustard oil

  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 2 bay leaves or tej patta

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook lobia with double the quantity of water for 6-7 whistles, till it turns soft.

  2. Transfer the boiled lobia with water to a bowl.

  3. In the cooker, add oil and saute the cumin seeds and tej patta.

  4. Add onions, ginger garlic paste and green chillies. Saute well.

  5. Then add the pureed tomatoes and saute for 5 minutes.

  6. After 5 minutes, add in the spices and salt.

  7. Finally add in the boiled lobia and pressure cook it for 6-7 whistles.

  8. Garnish with some coriander leaves and serve with jeera rice.
